Sands Street Bike Lane Complete

Finally, the construction is complete for the Sands Street "Protected" Bike Lane. It's taken years to come to fruition but now we have a direct, paved, protected path, segregated from cars, to and from the Manhattan Bridge.

There is even a dedicated "bike light" at the intersection of Sands and Gold Streets which is excellent but it's glaringly absent at the most important leg of this path: right under the Manhattan Bridge at Sands and Jay Streets. You literally have to go against a red light to cross the street to get to the new protected bike path. Not good... But the protected path itself is great!

Now we finally have a safer way to get to and from the Manhattan Bridge which is a major artery for traveling between Manhattan and Brooklyn.

  1. Wow... that two-way protected lane is ridiculously awesome. We don't deal with near the amount of traffic in KS, but I can think of a number of locations that would benefit from something like that.
